I hear this question from patients several times a week in my office. My answer is always the same. I feel that there are 3 things that you should spend a decent amount of money on. Your shoes, mattress, and pillow. They all separate your body from the gravitational pull of the earth. That pull will eventually wear out the joints and muscles supporting the joints over time. It is vital to get support from all three, to slow down the effects of the earth’s pull.
The best mattress brand is Kingsdown. I personally use one, and I do not receive any compensation from them. I don’t even sell them. The main reason I recommend them because they offer a lifetime warranty on their top of the line model and because they are built to last. Most mattress feel the same when you buy them, but a quality mattress will last for years. Cheaper mattresses will wear and become saggy in a short time after buying them.
There are other good manufactures out there, and most have a lot of different models and different firmness levels. I recommend trying each of them out for a few minutes while in the store. If you don’t like it when shopping, chances are you won’t like it later. Most people believe that they have to get a very firm mattress. This is not true. I recommend a moderately firm mattress, but not too firm.
We treat a lot of conditions in both York locations such as: sciatica, neck pain, back pain, pulled muscles, shoulder and hip pain, joint stiffness, and a lot more that a good mattress can help with treatments. If you are not getting enough rest the body will heal much slower.
One last bit of advise. Most people spend more time and attention when buying a car, and definitely more money. You will have a mattress much longer than your car, and a good mattress will actually make your life better. So take time and look around, there are a lot of good manufactures out there. You usually get what you pay for, so dont spend less than $1000 or you will be unhappy and buying another one sooner than you want.
